Nidec Servo Drives Overview
Nidec Industrial Automation servo products deliver high performance combined with maximum flexibility. The drives can connect to a wide range of motion controllers through I/O or dedicated communication networks such as SERCOS and EtherCAT. Alternatively, these drives can use their integrated motion controller to take control of the automation system.
To optimize performance, Control Techniques servo drives and servo motors are segmented by the duty required for the application.
- Pulse Duty – High dynamic applications requiring hard accelerations and decelerations. Examples include pick-and-place, flying shear and other cut-to-length machines. These applications are characterized by high peak (e.g. 300% overload) and moderate RMS torque.
- Continuous Duty – High precision over an extended duration requiring lower acceleration and deceleration rates. Examples include printing and winding and labelling. These applications are characterized by moderate peak and high RMS torque.

Epsilon EP, Control Techniques' compact and easy-to-use servo drive, is scalable from a simple amplifier to a completely programmable 1.5-axis motion controller. The Epsilon EP is available in three flexible models – Epsilon EP-B (base), Epsilon EP-I (indexer), and Epsilon EP-P (programming). Each model is available with five drive different power stages—2.2A, 4.0A, 6.5A, 9.0A and 16.0A—providing the capability to deliver over 198 lb-in (22.4 Nm) of torque at the rated motor speed and 396 lb-in (44.8 Nm) of peak torque for those high demanding pulse duty application. Connectivity is the key.
The Epsilon EP offers four of the most popular network connections for industrial controls. RS485 with the standard Modbus RTU interface is on all models allowing interfacing to PC Tools, simple HMI’s, and Drive to drive configurations. Optional ProfiBus DP and DeviceNet communication configurations for system integration to common PLC platforms, and EtherNet, standard on every Epsilon EP-P, opening up a whole new world of interfacing possibilities are also available
Multi Axis Modular Drive System
The Modular Drive System (MDS) is a powerful and cost effective solution for applications with multiple axes. The MDS utilizes a unique backplane architecture that provides a common bus platform for one of three sizes of power modules and up to eight drive modules. The MDS modules can operate on a 230V or 460Vac input. Plus, there are five different sizes of drive modules to meet the needs of almost any multiple axis application.

The smallest and easiest to use Digistart CS series sets up with simple potentiometer adjustments. It has one of the smallest foot prints available and includes a built-in bypass contactor, which allows smaller, non-ventilated enclosures, making it ideal for MCC applications.
